Review of The Greatest Showman (2017) by Tricia D — 19 Mar 2018
It's funny to read the reviews that say, "Yes, it was fun, visually beautiful, and a musical marvel, but it was all fake," since... That's what the movie was about. It doesn't pretend to be any more realistic than slightly historical fantasy and resembles the actual time period about as well as Game of Thrones does the Middle Ages.
The difference is, this movie makes people happy. The entire movie is about seeing the world for what it could be, rather than what it is, and then fighting to make those dreams reality. It's about risking the okay for the spectacular.
I love that this movie gave me permission to be happy. I love that it gave me permission to dream happy dreams. It's a fairy tale. Remember when we believed in fairy tales? The moment we believe that a good world Is impossible is the moment it becomes true.
