Review of The Greatest Showman (2017) by Michael S — 21 Mar 2018
Love it. It truly represent PT Barnum in the sense, that people leave feeling much happier than when the came even if there was a good amount of illusion involved! Ok, the movie was not factual and white washed PT Barnums true motivations into something altruistic, fact is even if he did exploit those who he hired, at that time in history it was still for their benefit.
Better to be exploited of your own free will making an income than to be cruelly intitutionalized or ignored and starving. If I have one uncomfortable aspect to the movie is that Jenny Lind was a real person who gave much of her life to charity and fulfilled her obligations to the real PT Barnum without any scandal, if anything her portrayal is a liberty that does her an injustice.
I just hope that people who love this move as I do realize it is fun story that is primarily historical fiction.
