Review of The Greatest Showman (2017) by James R — 03 Apr 2018
I've never been one for musicals, but this film does something more with music than just sing. I realize the pun there, but regardless, let me explain. The Greatest Showman has purpose in every scene, every lyric, every feeling.
Though somewhat predictable in its overall story arc, the underlying messages here shines through - especially in a such a world as our own. Hugh Jackman leads well, and sings well for that matter, but it is the side-show characters that pull this into perspective.
From the Oscar winning song " This is me" and its 4 other nominations, The Greatest Showman has widespread appeal. a underdog who wants to prove everyone wrong, even to the point of ignoring his own family, to redemption and finally to realizing what he had all along (again, somewhat predictable here).
All that aside this film has great fun choreography, and best of all - a positive message about life, family, and friends.
