Review of The Greatest Showman (2017) by Quizzacious — 28 Dec 2017
Despite the bold promises, The Greatest Showman is an empty movie that tries really hard to be inspiring. Michael Gracey is a new, young, first-time director who fails to lead the movie to a clear direction.
The songs are great in the theaters, but is too commercialized, without true feelings in the root of the songs. When the actors/actress were singing, it felt like they were playing a soundtrack, instead of the voice coming out from their mouth thanks to the overdone musical production.
It's not until the middle of the film that you really able to grasp what the movie is about. Throughout the movie, the plot is divided, empty, and messy. Not to mention that this 'based on true events' movie hid the true dark side of the protagonist - Darnum, who exploited African Americans for his own fame and wealth, which is completely the reverse of the "moral values" of the movie.
It might be a good entertainment movie, but failed to do most part decently.
