Review of The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) by John P — 23 Feb 2008
I love this film! It's trite & cliched, filled with.
EVERY circus stereotype imaginable...BUT it's also a wonderful throwback to more.
Innocent, less complicated times. Sawdust truly runs in.
Circus boss Charlton Heston's veins. Betty Hutton and Gloria Grahame were never sexier. Fugitive.
Jimmy Stewart plays the entire film disguised as Buttons the Clown. Cornel Wilde is a.
Testosterone-fuelled "flyer.".
There's color and spectacle - the climactic train wreck's a pip!; even Bob and Bing do their customary Paramount cameos. In the end, however, it's Cecil B. DeMille's show:
Funny, heart-rending, American in a way we can never revisit.
