Review of The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) by Nicholas L — 14 May 2011
Very watchable movie about the circus, with actual circus performers in it! If you look past (amongst others) Charlton Heston's horrible overacting, this is a nice movie with a good plot. Look for Jimmy Stewart as Buttons - a clown. See him do a gag with the legendary Lou Jacobs and other Ringling clowns. (You can see how to get in and out of a clown car quickly too!).
Legend has it, that when Jimmy paid a visit to Ringling some years later, he dropped by Clown Alley. He saw Lou sitting on his trunk and went over to him, saying "Hello, Lou". Lou never missing a beat said "Hello, Buttons".
