Review of The Great Ziegfeld (1936) by Joe L — 17 May 2009
Worth seeing for the ornate production numbers (particularly the incredible circular staircase 'wedding cake'). it's also a joy to see a tap dance by ray bolger, fanny brice flexing both comic and dramatic muscles, and the always engaging chemistry between william powell and myra loy.
unfotunately the 'drama' of ziegfeld's life is mostly trite, and wraps up with one of the corniest death scenes possibly ever in an oscar-winning film.
