Review of The Great Wall (2016) by Marcus E — 19 Feb 2017
Is this a great SciFi movie? Not even close but is it a good SciFi movie? Well. . .ok, I'll give it that. The story is a bit sparse; seems a meteorite crashes into this mountain and then every 60 years a bunch of really scary beasts come out to terrorize China.
Matt Damon is a mercenary looking for the secret to gun powder and an expert archer. But fortunately the action, live and CGI, get going so you can stop worrying about plot and such. Matt Damon glowers his way through his role but the stand out is Tian Jing as the Chinese leader.
Not only is she terrific to look at, she carries the role very well. Not a memorable movie at all, I won't see it again, but we had a good couple of hours and then went for a cheeseburger, so a good day all in all.
