Walked into this a 20 year fan of Zhang Yimou, and I was NOT disappointed! This movie is visually STUNNING. The battle scenes, costumes, and special effects in the forbidden city are captivating! I also love the strong role women are given! The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that I was disappointed that the monsters just look like dinosaurs.
I think they could have been more frightening and other-worldly.
