Review of The Great Silence (1968) by Craig S — 04 May 2007
A powerful meditation on the morality of killing, set in a gorgeous snow-covered vista and featuring a great score by Morricone. Kinski sinks his chops into one of his best roles as a murderous bounty hunter, while Trintignant pulls off the task of carrying the film while never uttering a word.
It's overwhelmingly downbeat and bleak, but that's part of what makes it work.
