Review of The Great Raid (2005) by Vern H — 16 Aug 2012
I have to admit that I am biased and wanted this movie to be great prior to viewing. My father was on Corregidor prior to the start of the war (Battery Chicago, 60th Coast Artillery (AA)) and spent time at Cabanatuan, Bilibid, Palawan and at Funatsu, Japan.
He was one of the lucky ones removed from Palawan prior to the massacre of those remaining which brought about The Great Raid. He was a personal and lifelong friend of Glenn McDole (Last Man Out, The Story of the Palawan Massacre).
A remarkable story most of which is true and a tribute to all Japanese POWs who suffered great inhumanity and who received so little credit for what they endured and accomplished.
