Review of The Great Outdoors (1988) by Nathan S — 03 Nov 2008
One of the dozen John Candy films I was raised on. I enjoy the innocent slapstick humor of both Dan Aykroyd and John Candy both collaborating to make this film. Highlights are the raccoons' witty one liners of destroying the garbage and eating the leftovers, John's success at eating a huge steak and later throwing up, and the ridiculous water skiing that makes me laugh at John's torment on his body.
The flaws in this film are the handful of predictable jokes that fall flat from funny and a bland plot. But the acting is what makes this a fun classic!!!!!!!!
