Review of The Great Muppet Caper (1981) by Stuart K — 22 Sep 2009
With the Muppet Show reaching it's end, Jim Henson and Co. followed up the success of The Muppet Movie (1979) with a sequel. It's a funny film, a good travellogue of London from an American perspective, and it has an amusing cast of celebrity cameos and Muppets.
:P It has hopeless newspaper reporters Kermit The Frog, Fozzie Bear and The Great Gonzo travelling to London to interview Lady Holiday (Diana Rigg), who had her jewels stolen while in New York, (and Kermit and Co.
missed it.) They arrive, and end up interviewing Lady Holiday's new secretary, Miss Piggy. :P However, more jewels are going missing, and it turns out Lady Holiday's crooked brother Nicky (Charles Grodin) is responsible for it, but he goes and frames Miss Piggy for it, so it's up to our team of fearless reporters, and a hotel full of Muppets, to clear Miss Piggy of any wrongdoing, and catch Nicky.
It's very silly, but it's enjoyable and it's well made, the celebrity cameos are fun and quite amusing too, including John Cleese, Peter Ustinov, Robert Morley, Jack Warden, Peter Falk, Joan Sanderson and Oscar the Grouch.
:P It's harmless family fun, and to think Henson shot this and The Dark Crystal back to back, what a man!! :).
