Review of The Great Mouse Detective (1986) by Emily W — 13 Mar 2012
The Great Mouse Detective focuses on Basil (Barry Ingham), an anthropomorphic mouse who is an analogue for Sherlock Holmes. Partnered with his friend Dr. Dawson (Val Bettin), this sleuth is dedicated to tracking down a toymaker who's been kidnapped by the Moriarty-like Ratigan (Vincent Price).
Produced during a low point in Disney's history, The Great Mouse Detective is an entertaining breath of fresh air thanks to its stylish animation, kid-friendly wit, and strong voice acting. As a matter of fact, I would say that this is one of my favorite celluloid versions of Baker Street's famous detective.
