Review of The Great Happiness Space: Tale of an Osaka Love Thief (2006) by David S — 14 Sep 2010
After we nuked these bastards, they seemed to descend into nothing but insanity, filth and cartoons. I can't really comprehend these "host" clubs, women pay gay-looking Japanese men not to have sex but to be their "boyfriends" which amounts to little more than hanging out and spending all their money on champagne? Only in Japan.
It's certainly an interesting documentary, both sides are funny and pathetic at the same time. One woman in particular is so fucking delusional about her relationship with a host, she wants to get married and start a life together.
Now this is really funny in two ways, first the host secretly hates her guts and even tells the camera so. Secondly, she HERSELF is a whore and tells the exact same lies to men that the hosts tell to her.
Absolutely hysterical. I don't understand it but the subject itself makes for a fascinating documentary.
