Review of The Great Happiness Space: Tale of an Osaka Love Thief (2006) by Allen R — 11 Jun 2011
Somehow it ended up being an unintentional prostitution documentary double feature last night with the recent XAVIERA HOLLANDER documentary. Two separate cultures, sexes, and sexual eras make for a fine exploration of sexual dynamics throughout the world.
TGHS, focusing on male hosts, is by far the more cynical of the two, and also the more interesting. If anything, it illustrates a HIGHLY disturbing trend in Japanese sexual politics with regard to the seemingly loathsome "Host" culture.
