Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by Spencer K — 09 May 2014
So - sometimes you go to a film because its on at the local monthly picture house - The Zonita in Ampthill - and you want to support it. And you don't know anything about the film, don't expect much from it and plan to spend the evening in the bar, if necessary.
And guess what? The film turns out not to be just good but really good. Baz Luhrman's version of The Great Gatsby is creepy and unsettling and looks terrific. Also - while Leonardo Di Caprio is very good in it, the film belongs to Tobey Maguire.
And I have not "been through all of F Scott Fitzgerald's books" to quote his Bobness but having seen The Great Gatsby, I may well do.
