Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by David C — 14 Jan 2019
One of the greatest novels ever, a brilliant allegory about America struggling to find and assert itself in the context and timeline of Western history, The Great Gatsby is about over-the-top characters in over-the-top time and setting, This doesnï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)t mean that the filmmaking should be as senselessly over-the-top, the acting flat and uninspired, the editing frenetic and alienating.
The Great Gatsby is also something like 45000 words, by most standards not even ï¿ 1/2 1/2officialï¿ 1/2 1/2ï¿ 1/2Â? novel length. Fitzgerald knew when to stop. Thatï¿ 1/2 1/2(TM)s the example Baz Luhrman should have followed.
