Review of The Great Gatsby (2013) by Lauren T — 23 Apr 2016
In Love, Gatsby is a fool, like a naive young teenager. His eyes are full with never-ending firm and deep love. This is a story take place in the New York. There are three important places in New York, which is West Egg (newly land), East Egg (old moneyed), and the Valley of Ashes.
At the beginning of this film, Gatsby give himself a lot of labels?Oxford, World War II, Medals, and noble; And he carry these Medals and photoes of WWII with him all the times. He does not care whether anyone really believe that because of his past completely negative.
First, he denied his origin family background; He does not admit that he is the son of the farmer. Second, he denied his hope of inheritance and follow Dan Cody to sail for 5 years; This 5 years changed his and Daisy?s life of their origin plan.
Third, he is also deny that his later success by bootleg liquor or manipulate of the bonds. That is why, he said to Tom, ?I? ve just as much as you. That means we are equal.? So when Tom expose Gatsby, Gatsby is so self assured and very angry.
Because only being exposed, people will become angry from embarrassment. The Great Gatsby is not so much about love, than to tell a lonely man, how to decorate his dream or fantasy, and use it to fight with reality in the book.
And Daisy is the only dream of Gatsby. We can see that the dream of the great power, it makes a toff youth become to a wealthy on the East Coast. But the tragedy ending of this novel reminds us that dreams sometimes also are very pale, how jiggled shake people?s heart when the dreams have broken.
Compared with them, Gatsby is the only hero living in the impulsive society. And I think the scene from film and the book both are justice. The party which talk about in the film is match the book. A vivid description of a party is given.
There were beautiful girls, drunk men, and boisterous crowds there, but none of them perceived the pointless of their lives and the barren of their minds. The most impressive impression that Gatsby gave him is that he often held big parties and hang out with various kind of people.
Also in both of them, Gatsby was described as a kind of mysterious man in the beginning. This story can serve as a reminder for us. To live a meaningful life, we should carefully choose some dreams to pursue.
And in the process of fulfilling our dreams, we should always be conscious about what we really desire. Anyhow, only by pursuing the proper dreams can we finally get to the deep springs of happiness.
