One of my favorites. Jack Clayton captures the rich atmosphere of Long Island in the roaring 20's like none other. Sam Waterson is perfect as Nick Carraway who has a great curiosity of his neighbor Jay Gatsby's lavish lifestyle and mysterious past.
Gatsby is played by Robert Redford who was a perfect casting choice. His mellow, laid back personality fits in amazingly with the character. Gatsby meets Daisy, a married woman played by Mia Farrow who may not have been the best choice, but didn't hurt the film.
They fall in love and her husband played by Bruce Dern becomes suspicious of the single millionaire. Questions are answered through lies, betrayal and violence in this beautiful adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald book, with a little Francis Ford Coppola brain thrown into the mix.
Don't miss this if you appreciate great film making.
