Review of The Great Gatsby (1974) by Ashley H — 23 Nov 2014
I wanted to see this version of the great book before I see the Baz Luhrmann one. It's gotten pretty widely panned, but I actually thought it was pretty good. I think a lot of my enjoyment comes from seeing a young Sam Waterston playing Nick Carraway, who is probably the most relatable character in the book.
In fact the movie is actually better when there is the wonder of who Gatsby is than once you actually meet him. It sags a bit in the middle when it focuses too much on the romance between Gatsby and Daisy.
But it picks back up near the end with tense scenes involving Wilson (played by Scott Wilson!).
