Review of The Great Escape (1963) by Matt K — 09 Mar 2009
Thoroughly exciting and tense from start to finish. Borrows heavily from Jean Renoir's Le Grand Illusion and has since gone on to influence so many films (Chicken Run, The Counterfeiters to name but two).
James Garner and Richard Attenborough particularly impress amoungst the brilliant ensemble, although I'm not sure what was going on James Coburn's Australian accent. Iconic but so much more.
