Review of The Great Escape (1963) by Bruno V — 30 May 2011
Classified: Perfectly Fresh.
Defining Moment: Ive's being shot down causing Hilts (Steve McQueen) to get involved in the mission.
Highs:
Strong, stellar cast. Great acting, awesome well-told story and an undeniable classic feel to the whole adventure.
Lows:
I don't really have any, some would say the length but it is such an epic film that it truly does need the time it has.
H&L Conclusion:
One of my favourite films which is both exciting and a great representation of the resilient human spirit. It is a down the middle film, not damning Germany and not upholding Britain or America as the ultimate heroes but it simply shows different soldiers doing what they can in the Great War. Brilliant.
