Review of The Great Escape (1963) by J H — 12 Jul 2009
The most ingenious parts of the film are simply the incredible ideas the POW's had that kept the Germans from figuring out what was going on. I'm not sure there's a more intriguing escape in film history.
McQueen's famous motorcycle chase scene isn't too shabby either. This isn't to say that the film feels a bit bloated in a few areas and could use some liposuction to get rid of a few excess minutes.
But for as long as it is, it isn't a stretch to call most of it riveting stuff.
