Review of The Great Escape (1963) by Curtis R — 21 Sep 2010
World War II action classic based on a true story of Allied prisoners in a German Stalag who plan a well masterminded escape by tunneling under the camp. The all star cast includes Sir Richard Attenborough as the leader Big X, Donald Pleasence as the Forger, James Garner as the Scrounger, Charles Bronson as the Tunnel expert, James Coburn as the Manufacturer and stealing the film from everybody, Steve McQueen as Virgil Hilts the Cooler King.
At just under three hours, this is a long movie but the drama and action always manage to hold your attention. A John Sturges classic.
