Review of The Great Dictator (1940) by Paige M — 26 Apr 2009
Another Chaplin classic. Very ahead of it's time and a VERY gutsy move for Chaplin. Making a film like this today wouldn't be a big deal, but to make it during Hitler's time...wow, Hitler must have been pissed! Loved the movie, it's hilarious and touching.
Chaplin is pure brilliance and plays 'Henkyl' and the Barber so well. It is a great film, and I recommend it to all. For Chaplin's first 'talkie', it is a masterpiece. It is a shame that people back then did not appreciate it as much as it is appreciated today.
