Review of The Great Dictator (1940) by Brandon C — 15 May 2010
I would have to be honest, before I saw this I had never even see anything of Chaplin. I kept being told to watch this film because its a great historical film in cinema history. I would have to say that I was intensely impressed I never thought I would like slapstick comedy since I was a child but he does it better then the three stooges, and that is amazing in its self.
The subtle ways to make fun of history but current events at the time was phenomenal, one of best scenes was watching dictator Adenoid Hynkel aka Hitler dance around his office playing with a globe like beach ball.
Chaplin really is the master at slapstick comedy, he manages it in a way that doesn't get on my nerves. I try not to explain what the movie is exactly about in my reviews you can either look it up or watch it to find out, but the ending speech that Chaplin makes at the end really made the movie shine, it shows how intelligent and passionate that Chaplin was about his beliefs of liberty, peace for all humans.
