Review of The Great Debaters (2007) by Anne B — 08 Aug 2008
I wasn't sold on this movie. I want to write things like: compelling, moving movie, which sounds so empty when I read it. This movie really deserves those words.
The real story of the wiley college debate teams: an african american university in Texas in the 30s...
I was a bit apprehensive about the 2 hours, but Denzel Washington's directing turns out to be very efficient. Almost no slowing down (maybe one scene when Nate Parker comes back drunk to the hotel could have been a little shorter).
A very good surprise.
