Review of The Great Debaters (2007) by Lyndon Joel E — 31 Dec 2008
The Great Debaters is a typical Harpo Studios production, an inspirational celebration of African-American triumph, but hammy it ain't. What could have been a load of schlock is actually a very good film thanks to a tremendously talented cast including the ever-fantastic Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker (and newcomer Denzel Whitaker), and a great script that not only tells the true story of African-American triumph, but explores the nature of freedom and equality.
Washington also directs.
