Review of The Great Debaters (2007) by A I — 17 Aug 2009
I didn't like this movie, why I don't know. I don't think this movie is bad, its just I didn't like it.
The movie stars Denzel Washington, a great actor, but I found his performance in this movie to be weak. I've seen only a few other of his movies, but out of all of them, this is the only one I didn't like. Why, I honestly don't know. Anyone could disagree, everyone has their own opinion.
Well the movie is about Denzel's character leading his students of black debaters to a debating tournament or something. He is also secretly some farmer's strike leader or something. If you haven't notice this movie wasn't also very memorable to me either, but honestly I don't care, and still don't.
The one thing I know for sure that I didn't like was how they showed racism in the movie. The movie takes place in the early 1900 (or late 1800?) where being racist was still OK. I' am really tired of these kinds movies, they have the same moral, to treat everyone fair, and to show what black people had to go through. They're not bad morals, it's just the same thing in all movies about black people. Generally I don't like those kinds of movies, unless they're really good, like To Kill a Mockingbird and Glory. But I think this didn't stand out enough to separate itself from the other movies about racism.
I'll admit that this movie has some good and funny moments, but it didn't help itself from becoming a memorable movie. It isn't a bad movie at all, but it isn't that good either, and I didn't like it. 2/5.
