Review of The Great Buck Howard (2008) by John M — 14 May 2009
A small movie. John Malkovich plays the great Buck Howard, an illusionist/magician whose career is on the decline. Colin Hanks is a law school dropout who has just signed on to be his assistant. The great Buck Howard attempts to resurrect his career.
.. It's not that I didn't like this one, I did, but really, not a whole lot happens in it. As entertaining as it is to watch the great John Malkovich act and fully get into his role, it's not enough for a movie.
It's him just performing his act, humorously, too, but at the end of the movie, you realize how thin the plot was and how little resolution occurred. It's not something you would be upset if you paid money to see, but I can't recommend you pay to see something where so little happens.
