Review of The Great Buck Howard (2008) by Brad G — 25 Jul 2009
John Malcovich is a riot, as Buck Howard a down on his luck mentalist, whose claim to fame is that he had appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson an astounding 61 times. After a disastrous stunt Buck finds himself back in the spotlight and famous once again. But it may not be what he really wanted, after all...
John Malcovich has always been able to lose himself fully in a character and he does it again with Buck Howard the neurotic, self-obsessed, mad man who is trying to do what makes him happy, something that mirrors Colin Hanks' character, Troy who is down trodden and desperate to find his lot in life.
Really great little film, that for any Malcovich fan is a must see, and for everyone else it is a very intriguing and wonderfully done character study based in part on the real life of The Amazing Kreslin, who appears in a featurette on the DVD, and makes for a pleasant little addition to an otherwise already great film.
