Review of The Great Buck Howard (2008) by Steve O — 11 Aug 2009
It has been a while since I've seen a movie as good as this one. Recently I have been on a cold streak with movies, but this one broke it. It is a very fun and hilarious look at life on the road with a "celebrity" magician.
John Malkovich is on fire as The Great Buck Howard. He is over the top and self-absorbed, and absolutely hilarious. Colin Hanks shines and shows the kind of talent his dad has. Speaking of the elder Hanks, it is nice to see him in a couple scenes in this movie as Colin Hanks' movie dad.
In the middle of one of the worst summers for movies in years, it was good to see an actually entertaining movie, but it was a shame that it went Direct to DVD when there is so much crap at the theater.
