Review of The Great Beauty (2013) by Gianluca C — 14 Dec 2013
Can I add another star?
Sorrentino skillfully depicts Rome in all its beauty while poignantly portraying the decadence of its high society. It's a mix between the sacred and the profane... I don't think I've ever seen Rome so beautiful since titles like Amarcord and La Dolce Vita...It's a clear homage to the great Federico Fellini.
Sorrentino's writing is so sensible and so realistic that it leaves you with a sense of emptiness, disgust and ultimately hopelessness. The performances are all great and it would truly surprise me if Toni Servillo does not get nominated for a "Best Actor" Academy Award. He is probably one of the greatest actors of our era...
Definitely on my Top Ten titles for 2013!
