Review of The Great Beauty (2013) by Eylül G — 18 Jan 2014
Throughout this beautiful, exquisite movie we hear Jep Gambardella, the main character reminding us of Flaubert's wish on "writing a book about nothing". Flaubert, apparently was not able to do that but it would be perfectly safe to say that Paolo Sorrentina did it: he made a movie about nothing, and it tells you everything.
Everything about life and death. The story or the ending of this film is of no importance - it is the journey itself that moves you. One of the most brilliant films I've watched in a long, long time.
