Review of The Grapes of Wrath (1940) by Tore S — 02 Feb 2008
It's probably the greatest film to convey the harsh realities of the great depression--it doesn't quite reach the heights that the Steinbeck's novel did (I doubt the censors would've allowed it) but it still shows how merciless the times could be (especially for people stuck in the Dust Bowl).
Few movies at the time were really showing things like this. Henry Fonda and Jane Darwell are awesome in it, as are Ford's direction and Gregg Toland's cinematography. You should definitely watch it if you're into American history.
