Review of The Grapes of Wrath (1940) by Ryan H — 22 Mar 2008
The Grapes of Wrath is a great film, although I can understand why a lot of people criticise it for being boring and / or slowly paced. I would have preferred to have seen the ending from John Steinbeck's novel but for obvious reasons, it wasn't to be - the ending would have had no chance of bypassing the censors back in 1940.
It's a shame because I feel the original novelised ending would have made a killer impact and empathetic ending, as well as become even more painstakingly realistic.
