Review of The Grapes of Wrath (1940) by Stephen E — 11 Nov 2012
"The Grapes of Wrath" is depressing and melodramatic and full of leftist political and social ideologies, but its harsh depiction of working class life during the Depression era is what makes it such an unabashed classic.
John Ford's direction is brilliant as usual and he effectively captures the sad realism of what many families were forced to deal with during that dark period of time. As well, striking cinematography and humble, earnest performances ensure that "The Grapes of Wrath" won't be forgotten.
