Review of The Grapes of Wrath (1940) by Matt G — 04 Jul 2017
Something like a post-apocalyptic John Ford film, as the Joad family wanders through the decaying contours of Southwest America. Amazing performances by the entire ensemble, and some astounding black-and-white cinematography.
The final scene is probably one of the most unnecessary things in film history, but still, this has to be one of my favorites, if not my favorite, John Ford film. Much more contemplative than any of his other hokey, pulpy Westerns.
Classy.
