Review of The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) by Lasse G — 27 Mar 2016
I'm not a huge Wes Anderson fan admittedly. His works tend to be ridiculous snarky character fapfests. The chance to see "Grand Budapest" came my way, and I had big reservations about it.
I should interrupt and say I'm a big hotel movie fan. The Shining, Barton Fink, anything that does have a hotel, the older the better, I'm a mark for. This movie has that in spades, the majesticness, and the pretentiousness, this hotel has it. The type of hotel that has hallways and balconies and whatever for god knows what reason, But Anderson knows, and that's a big plus to this movie. The characters here are funny, and Anderson seemed to tap into the works of Guy Maddin with many of the shots here. Such a joy to watch, and would watch this again in a heartbeat.
