Review of The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) by Tom S — 15 Mar 2015
It's impossible not to admire a film where nearly every shot feels iconic, where the dismayingly handsome Ralph Fiennes is so irresistible, yet halfway thru I couldn't feeling a bit short-changed by a film that can't take even its most grotesque moments seriously.
There's no doubt about the vision behind the cinematography - aesthetically, this is a classic. Emotionally, it's a dud.
