Review of The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) by Aura V — 03 Feb 2015
I loved this film - the story, writing, acting, cinematography, editing, and particularly the meticulous framing of each shot. A visual cornucopia for an obsessive compulsive mind.
However - many people I've spoken to have commented on how "weird" this film is. So, it's nuance and charm might be lost on those that prefer something which doesn't frame the mundane to emphasize the absurd. This film tells a fantastical story in a low key, surreal fashion - so, if that sort of thing doesn't appeal to you, I wouldn't suggest this film. It also helps if you know & like Wes Anderson's aesthetic.
