Review of The Graduate (1967) by Jason V — 10 Feb 2012
Is it just me or does this movie totally jump the shark halfway through? Is there something I'm missing? The first third of The Graduate is a perfect comedy of awkwardness with brilliant writing and timing, but once the love triangle drama starts up everything goes out the window.
Decisions stop making sense and situations stop feeling natural and the characters turn to plastic. I guess I wanted this movie to be something it isn't. It's still pretty good, and Hoffman is incredible throughout, but it ends up like a tenth as interesting as it could have been.
