Review of The Graduate (1967) by Antti P — 26 Jan 2011
Witty, incisive and groundbreaking. Dustin Hoffman provides the blueprint in the coming-of-age-comedy genre, for everyone from Ferris Bueller to American Pie. The ultimate honour for this film comes from being parodied FOUR TIMES on the Simpsons between 1991 and 2007, entrenching the film as a cultural icon.
Dustin Hoffman is truly outstanding as a bumbling adolescent, trying to enter adulthood, with Anne Bancroft providing a perfect foil to him. The Simon and Garfunkel soundtrack provides the perfect backing. For anyone who loves the song Mrs. Robinson, I highly suggest you check this out for the original snippet of the song that aired BEFORE its 1968 single release.
