Review of The Graduate (1967) by Tedd P — 18 Feb 2013
Besides kickstarting Dustin Hoffman's young career, The Graduate is a landmark picture in the way it brought an onset of previously unexplored cinematic techniques to audiences still transitioning away from the star-driven glamour and epic canvases of classic Hollywood.
Mike Nichols' direction (the source of the film's only Oscar) should be studied by anyone interested in subjective filmmaking (in particular the diving suit sequence, Scarborough Fair across the bridge, and the single-shot coverage of the post-graduation party in the beginning come to mind).
And of course a salute to Simon and Garfunkel's legendary soundtrack- all ingredients masterfully combine in one of my five favorite movies ever.
