Review of The Gorgeous Hussy (1936) by Jason T — 24 Sep 2008
I found the human plot-lines in this film to be very intriguing and the acting was also great. Joan Crawford gave a great performance, and she looked amazing throughout the entire film. I also enjoyed seeing Joan play a more vulnerable, innocent character.
I really didn't pay particular attention to the opening credits of the film and was delighted to see Jimmy Stewart show up in the film. I thought his small parts in the film added a lot of flair. I really feel Lionel Barrymore should have received more acclaim for his performance of Andrew Jackson.
Granted, the historical aspect of this film is skewed and written totally for dramatic affect, I still feel his performance was strong. Overall, I really enjoyed the film, and I wish there was an actress today that could carry such a presence as Joan Crawford brought to every one of her films.
