In an effort to keep getting kicked out of their house a group of friends band together and going looking for treasure in an abandoned house. A long the way they fight of a group of criminals, a monster, and deadly traps set by a pirate.

They call themselves the Goonies and as you might expect the story has a fairly happy ending. The story is maybe best described as quaint and watching it in 2012 there's a very nostalgic feel to it.

Teenage romance does't require almost near nudity and its almost 'cute' when a 12 year old actor swears. The movies have come along ways but maybe they've lost a sense of sedulity. The Goonies is definitely a movie from a different era.

Having said this its important to compare the Goonies against some of it contemporaries. For example Romancing the Stone or Indiana Jones on this level the Goonies really isn't quite as good. The story is a little bit disjointed and even a little strange at times.

While it might be a nice jaunt down memory lane ultimately the Goonies is a fairly average movie.
