Review of The Goodbye Girl (1977) by Jennifer K — 15 May 2010
I remember really liking this movie as a kid. I think I was a little younger than the daughter in the movie, living with my single mom. The men that came in to our lives were no Richard Dreyfusses! Ah, you gotta remember Dreyfuss was way cool back then.
He was like the Ben Stiller or Luke Wilson or Vince Vaughn of the time. A quality actor providing quality entertainment. Maybe not the hottest stud, but sexy enough to sweep us off our feet in a rom com.
His character in this is on the annoying side, but he's a good guy and winds up showing a romantic side that men should study! Men and women and children will all enjoy the witty bickering, realistic character studies, and playful Richard III spin.
Watching it now, being one year older than the mother, I can see how I liked it as a child, and enjoyed it again today in both new and old ways.
