Review of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) by Ryan — 10 Mar 2009
A true cinematic marvel - undoubtedly the best representative of it's genre, surpassing even that other heavyweight "The Searchers". Leone (with Morricone's phenomenal score) weaves a stunningy beautiful yet desperately sad tapestry of a west torn by civil war.
The actions of our leading trio are ant-like in this scale, but this contrast drew me in, and the ruthless and brutality portrayted somehow gains reason. Exquisite piece of film - just watch with fresh eyes, and ignore pop culture's never-ending parody and reference to this Italian-made brilliance.
