Review of The Good Son (1993) by Tom S — 28 Jul 2010
What a great movie, highly underrated. It's a solid thriller that captures something essential about young boys and psychopathic behavior. Well written smart story, beautifully shot with great scenery of the northeast, wonderfully directed, cast and performed, the best of elijah wood and Macauley Culkin career. The only flaw I can see is that sometimes when Culkin is obviously lying and being overly sweet, it's not believable it's so obvious that I'm surprised no one let on so he should have always delivered his lies truthfully to play a really clever sociopath. Also, I suppose the cliffhanger ending (pun intended) was a bit melodramatic, but fuck it, it works. The themes are dark as well, but I like that, is that the only reason why people hate this movie? I wonder...
"Hey Mark, don't fuck with me.".
